Brief Biography of the Organizer:

Dr. Adrianos Retalis received the B.Sc. from the University of Athens (Geology), M.Sc. from the University of Dundee (Remote Sensing, Image Processing and Applications) and the Ph.D. from the University of Athens (Remote Sensing: Air Pollution Mapping and Atmospheric Correction Algorithms). He has published more than 100 papers in Journals and Conferences most of which related to the application of satellite image analysis techniques for atmospheric correction algorithms, air pollution mapping, forest fire, water quality, land use/cover, EIA studies, environmental protection, meteorology and atmospheric electricity. He has received the award of ERASMUS exchange scheme and ΝΑΤΟ awards for participation in NATO ASI. He has a great experience in research projects being scientific responsible in various European and National projects, contributing to scientific reports and applying remote sensing techniques for assessment of air pollution, development of atmospheric correction algorithms, land use/cover mapping, and environmental management. He was the content provider for a multimedia CD-ROM on Remote Sensing and GIS. He acts as a reviewer for the journals IEEE Transaction on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, Journal of Geophysical Research – Atmosphere, Journal of the Air & Waste Management Association, International Journal of Remote Sensing and Journal of Atmospheric Research. He also acts as an evaluator for EC funded projects. He is member of the Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society (UK), Global Network for Environmental Science & Technology, EARSeL Forest Fires and Urban Remote Sensing SIGs, and Hellenic Meteorological Society.
He was in the Scientific Committee of the 2005 IASME/WSEAS International Conference on ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT, ECOSYSTEMS and SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (EEESD'05) held in Athens and Venice and Organizer of the Special Session “Remote Sensing and GIS for Environmental Monitoring”.
