Agro-Residues and Energy Crops for
Sustainable Energy and Material Production
within the
2006 IASME / WSEAS International Conference on
ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT, ECOSYSTEMS and
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (EEESD'06)
Vouliagmeni, Athens, Greece, July 11-13, 2006

Introduction:
Biomass -especially agricultural residues
and energy crops- would play a significant role in alignment with
recent European Union policy targets. Biomass stocks consist one of
the most widespread renewable alternative that has not yet been
utilized to its full potential. Sustainable development of a
successful biomass exploitation sector would contribute to a
diverse, secure and self-sufficient energy supply.
Problems that connected directly to alarming fossil fuels over
consumption and environmental pollution combined with the strict EU
legislation are encouraging the development of sustainable biomass
exploitation strategies.
Low environmental impact, that biomass thermochemical exploitation
methods generate, could play a leading role in accomplishing those
strategies and mitigating the environmental effects of energy use.
The proposed session could include:
Topics:
-
Biomass sources and exploitation methods
-
Energy crops: Present and future
perspectives
-
Biomass thermochemical treatments and
sustainability:
-
Energy
-
High added value products
Possible areas under
consideration:
-
Agricultural Residues for
energy production in Mediterranean countries
-
Termochemical reatment methods
(gasification, pyrolysis)
-
Biofuels
-
Bioenergy
-
High Added Value by-products
