Brief Biography of
the Organizer:
Professor Fuji Ren received his B.E.
degree in 1982 and M.E. degree in 1985 from the department of
Computer Science, Beijing University of Posts and
Telecommunications, Beijing, China. He received his Ph.D. in 1991
from Faculty of Engineering, Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan.
From 1991 to1994, he worked at CSK in Tokyo, Japan, where he was the
chief NLP researcher. He joined the Faculty of Information Sciences
at Hiroshima City University as an Associate Professor in 1994. In
2001, he became a Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at The
University of Tokushima. He has been the president of AIA
International Advanced Information Institute since 2003. He also
holds professor positions at Dalian University of Technology(1993),
Harbin University of Technology (1995) and Xi’an Jiaotong
University(1999) . He holds the roles of Advisory Professor at
Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (1995) and
Research Advisor at Tsinghua University in China (1998). He was a
visiting professor at CRL (Computing Research Laboratory) at New
Mexico State University(1996), and a visiting research professor in
the College of Engineering, at Florida International University
(2002) in the USA. He is currently a Professor and the Chairperson
of the Department of Information Science and Intelligent Systems,
Faculty of Engineering, The University of Tokushima, Tokushima,
Japan.
Professor Fuji Ren was invited to be a senior overseas consultant
for the BUPT (Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications)
Academic Committee, a consultant for the Beijing Lab. of
Multi-Media, a senior consultant for Japan PtoPA Inc. and AGI Inc.,
an academic committee member of the Chinese national Lab. of pattern
recognition, an overseas assessor of the Chinese Academy of
Sciences, and a senior overseas consultant of China Council for the
Promotion of Applied Technology Exchanges with Foreign Countries.
Professor Fuji Ren is a senior member of IEEE (The Institute of
Electrical and Electronics Engineers), SMC (Systems, Man, and
Cybernetics Society) of IEEE, a member of the Association for
Computational Linguistics, the Association for Natural Language
Processing, Information Processing Society of Japan, The Institute
of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, The
Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence, Japanese Society for
Information and Systems in Education, Asia-Pacific Association for
Machine Translation, The International Association of Science and
Technology for Development, and The International Society for
Optical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Science and Engineering in
Japan. He was the president of The Association for Chinese
Scientists in Japan (1993-1995), Vice President (1996-1998) of CASEJ
(Chinese Academy of Science and Engineering in Japan) and President
of CASEJ(2001-2004). He is a director of the Chinese Association for
Artificial Intelligence and Honorary President of CASEJ. He has
organized over sixty international conferences and symposia as PC,
OC and Chair. He was Conference Chair of NLPKE (IEEE International
Conference on Natural Language Processing and Knowledge Engineering)
NLP-KE’03, NLP-KE’05, Organizing Committee Chair of Information-2000
(International Conference on Information), Program Committee Chair
of Information-2002, Information-2004, Co-Chair of Information-2006,
Conference Chair of International Symposium on Science and
Technology in the Twenty-First Century (ISST-2004), and Chair of the
International Workshop on Machine Translation and Multilingual
Information Retrieval (MTMIR 2004). Professor Fuji Ren has published
more than two hundred papers and seven Books. He was awarded the
Best paper Prize by the China Association for Science and
Technology, in 1995 and 1998, by Information-2000 and was awarded
the Gennai Prize in 2005. He has been invited as a keynote speaker
or invited speaker more than thirty times in the USA, China, Japan,
Singapore, and France.
Professor Fuji Ren is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Science
and Technology, Editor of the International Journal COLIPS, Area
Editors-in-Chief of the International Journal of INFORMATION, Editor
of the International Journal of Information Technology and Decision
Making, Associate Editor of the International Journal of Asian
Information-Science-Life, Technical Editor of the International
Journal of Information Acquisition, and Associate Editor of the
International Journal of Innovative Computing, Information and
Control.
Fuji Ren has led more than twenty Science and Technology Projects
and currently he is the leader of the project “Machine-Aided Writing
System based on Super-Function and Intellectual Corpus (The
Education Ministry of Japan under Grant-in-Aid for Scientific
Research), the international co-research project “Spoken Language
Automatic Translation” (The Outstanding Overseas Chinese Scholars
Fund of Chinese Academy of Sciences), the project “Multi-Lingual
Multi-Function Multi-Media Intelligent System”, and the project
“Recognizing Human Emotion and Creating Machine Emotion”.
